Welcome to my homemade website. I very much enjoy conventional and unconventional building systems designed to provide shelter for humans. I like to study the different possibilities that other people invent. I use this page to collect different websites featuring conventional and alternative building ideas — prefab and portable building designs are dominant here. And some of these designs here are not necessarily new or the latest but still serve as a reminder of a possible alternative. For the most part, everything i present here is hopefully available for purchase or use by the widest audience possible. I do not like to include items which are so localized that only a few people can access them. This is not an art gallery. Included are the most ugly and practical buildings to the most elegant and beautiful. I hope you enjoy your visit here.

Also, i want to mention that i am aware of the fact that a lot of people do not like advertising placed on websites. It is an observation of mine over the years that people who do not offer advertising on their websites and are not receiving a minimal level of income from their sites do not last near as long as sites generating some income for their owners. Maintaining a website or blog on a regular basis is actually a lot of work and is quite time consuming. It has been my policy always to include advertising on my websites that are "non-intrusive" to the viewers computer - that is, no pop-up ads or any other type of ads that would be automatically downloaded onto the viewers computer. In the old internet days before Google became popular, the net was flooded with all kinds of harmful advertising methods, like installing advertising programs on the viewers' computer in a surreptitious manner, it was horrible. I am sure that there still exists a certain amount of bad advertising techniques on the internet, but the situation is not near as bad as it was prior to Google setting a higher standard "Do No Harm" type advertising. The point is, if i wasn't making some money with my websites - i would stop maintaining them. It's like television - for many years it has been free to the general public because of advertising. Same exact situation here. Advertising pays the bills. I am adding another quality advertising source which i like a lot - Amazon.com.   • Shipping Container Shipping Containers • Also called Conex Boxes or ISBU (Intermodal Steel Building Unit) but the official name is "ISO Transport" and becoming more popular used as Homes, Office Space and Personal Storage. This section specializes in online businesses that design structures using these containers or they sell seagoing shipping containers which are in great supply i understand. Some people call them "Storage Containers". This is a home or cabin conversion method which has experienced rapid worldwide growth because of the availability and low cost of these containers.   • Compact House Prefab Compact Homes • Portable & Non-Portable. This section specializes in online businesses that sell prefabricated small and some not so small houses or cabins; some on wheels and some not. Sizes can range from 96 sq.ft.(8'X12') to 400 sq.ft. (20'X20'). Some may be a little bigger. Sheathing almost always made from either wood, steel or some form of plastic. Contents inside are organized into "parts" to make loading easier for those on dial-up internet connection. Be sure to visit Part Part 2 & Part 3 - links near page bottom, right side.
  • Tri-Panel Dome Geodesic & Airform Dome Homes • Includes both Prefab Kit & Owner Built. This section specializes in online businesses that sell prefabricated geodesic dome kits or geodesic dome home systems, plus other owner/builder dome building information. I need to make a distinction here. In this page is grouped together geodesic domes (i.e. domes using triangle shapes as structural framework) and airform domes which use an inflated rubber bladder that is coated with some kind of stucco like material and allowed to dry to produce a shell to be finished with other material and procedures. Big difference. Two very different types of building process, but both called dome building. For right now i will keep them both together. But just wanted to let you know that there are two very different dome systems being shown here.
  • Synthetic Covered Dome Domes using Synthetic Fabric or Canvas for Covering • This section specializes in online businesses that sell materials and kits for the retail consumer. Available are dome kits and accessories. Also included is access to sites which show you how to build your own dome structures or framework, like for example out of bamboo sticks, pvc plastic pipe, electrical metal tubing (EMT) & other material. This section also presents the lowest cost options for building portable dome structures useful to the individual or for use at group events like Burningman.
  • Starplate Top Side Metal Connector Systems • This section specializes in online businesses that sell metal frame member connector systems mostly used for Building Sheds and Cabins to attach standard lumber sizes (2X6, 2X4, 2X3, 2X2, 1X2 inch) and timber frames together to make either dome like frames or conventional box type frame shapes. Using these connectors should theoretically make your building project go up faster and stronger.
  • Cabin Tent Cabin & Wall Tents • This section specializes in online businesses that sell prefabricated cabin and wall tents. Some of these also include tipis or other native type dwellings. Also included are family camping tents, tents that are freestanding and large enough for 8 to 12 people, but usually cannot accommodate a wood burning stove.
  • Cabin & Shed Building Plans Cabin & Shed Plans For Sale • A source for Cabin, Cottage, Shed Plans & Do-It-Yourself Building Guides. This section specializes in online businesses that sell shed and cabin building plans with emphasis on small to medium size units. Contains some sources for free plans. An effort is made to limit the square footage to under 1000 SF. Also included are free plans and plans for dome building or any other irregular shaped building. And also included are do-it-yourself websites that offer free advice or instructions on building a particular type of building like a shed, home office or cabin, etc.
  • Home Office Backyard Home Offices, Studios & Retreats • This section specializes in online businesses that sell prefabricated home office or garden office, retreat, garden studio type buildings. Most of these type of structures are slightly different than a common shed in that the use of glass and a more finished interior with nice paneling is applied throughout. Plus they usually have electrical service with outlets and are insulated for better temperature control. They resemble a stand alone office shed you might find downtown at the mall.
  • Poly Shed Prefab Plastic Sheds • This section specializes in online businesses that sell prefabricated freestanding polyethylene or resin sheds. Also included are Vinyl Sheds or storage buildings. Vinyl is different than Polyethylene. Vinyl is actually PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) the same plastic used in making the very common PVC water pipe. A person could probably live in one of these plastic sheds, but i would not install a wood stove...
  • Wood Shed Prefab Wood Sheds • This section specializes in online businesses that sell prefabricated stand alone wood or wood product sheds & kits. Wood siding might be made of Cedar siding, T1-11 siding or sanded plywood. Many US counties allow the addition of a small building not to exceed 120SF (10X12FT) on most residential properties.
  • Indian Tipi Tipis | Tepees | Teepees • Refers to Indian Style Tents. This section specializes in online businesses that sell prefabricated tipis and sometimes other tent systems. I try and list only tipi makers that make tipis suitable for year round living, tipis that a person could live in full time if they so desire. I try to stay away from "historical reproduction tents" made for historical re-enactors and collectors, unless they are also suitable for full time use.
  • G-Wood House Irregular Shaped Shelter Systems & Design • This section specializes in online businesses or designs that use non-traditional odd shapes for construction. Included are individuals who have invented unique design structures which can be copied by anyone for their own personal use. Some of these shelters listed here are what i call "personal shelters" great for one or two people in a camping situation.
  • Log Cabin Log Cabins & Precut Logs • This section specializes in online businesses that sell prefabricated log cabin kits and precut & grooved logs. This is probably the best way to go for a modern person desiring a log cabin to live in.
  • Structural Insulated Panel sample piece Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) • This section specializes in online businesses that sell SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels). I sometimes use the term "Insulated Foam Panel" which to me is the same. The acronym SIPs refers to panels made from a thick layer of foam (4-6" of polystyrene or polyurethane) sandwiched between two sheets of Oriented Strand Board (OSB), plywood or fiber-cement. If a person can afford it - this is the best system to use in my opinion especially in an area of severe weather, either too hot or too cold.
  • Metal Shed Prefab Metal Sheds • This section specializes in online businesses that sell prefabricated freestanding metal sheds or kits. Arrow Sheds is one of the most common and famous purveyors of metal sheds. Metal sheds can be used as small livable cabins also, best to set-up on a wood platform.
  • Mongolian Yurt Yurts & Everything About Yurts • This section specializes in online businesses that sell prefabricated yurt systems. Lots of different designs and material used for finishing the walls, etc. Wall covering ranges from cotton canvas to fiberglass to wood. Most yurts are made to be portable and some built as permanent structures here in the US and Europe.
  • Electrical Fires Book Electrical Fires and Their Causes • This is a book the author has entrusted me to sell online.
